Start By Committing
Starting and learning to meditate can be difficult. You or your family might think of meditation as from another culture or maybe even wishy-washy. You may feel like you are too busy.
All of these are outweighed by the benefits of living mindfully and finding peace. Try it once, try it for a week and see how it feels. Make a commitment to yourself for 15 minutes to meditate.
Find a Time and Place That Works
Find a time during the day that works for you. Find a space that works for you. It should be a quiet place that you can relax without being disturbed. Maybe you can put a candle, a feather or a stone that has significance to you. This is your space, where you go to meditate. What would you like to put in this place to make it a special and peaceful place that you is about your personal health and wellbeing? Is there comfortable chair or a place where you can lie down?
Tell your family that this is your space. And ask them to respect your meditating room or space that you will be meditating for fifteen minutes per day for the next month.
I am going to ask that you take fifteen minutes per day to meditate. If you are comfortable with my recordings of meditations then use those. If those do not work for you find one that suits you and your needs. Fifteen minutes per day is what we will begin with.
I am going to ask for a commitment of fifteen minutes every day for one month. If you miss a day just notice that you missed a day. Do not start to criticize or put yourself down.
You may also want to keep a journal to write down any thoughts or experiences you may have while developing your meditation practice. Make it a journal that is only for recording your experiences and not for grocery lists and such. Maybe this journal can be kept in your meditation space. I would also recommend having a good pen. A pen and journal kept near your meditation space so that you can write draw or record all of the changes that you may experience.
If you put time and energy into your practice of meditation you will see the benefits before long. You’ll experience peace, be more mindful and present, stop living in the past or future. You’ll begin to stand in the center of your own power.
I wish you all the best!
